“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” -Plato

I’ve been posting a lot of songs here tagged as “Soundtrack of the Day” lately and I thank you all for appreciating some of these songs. Music, is one of the greatest art and creation this world ever has, I can say and I know for sure, everybody will agree. As the quote above says, “gaiety to life and to everything.”, music is everything.

Music, as the word itself sounds good to every ears. Can you imagine life without music? I personally can’t even call it life without it. Every human born first learn how to make a sound before they learn how to speak a word. Sounds, melodies, rhythms, beats, all these musical terms are like songs to the wind.

Roughly as I remember, the first song I’ve learned was at school, the famous Alphabet song. They have put a simple school lesson into a song. Because everybody says that you can easily memorize something when you sing it than just merely memorizing by speaking it. And that’s quite true.

Then it’s when I am 7 years old when I first learn how to sing a real song. It was in the church that I realized that I love to sing. I love to hear the keys of the piano, the guitar strings, and the drum beats. I was in a children’s choir that time, we sang gospel songs every Sunday. And it was Teacher Malou (my Sunday school teacher) who taught us the different types of voices and especially the unconditional love of our Almighty God. Even at school, I was invited to sing for intermission numbers and contest (not some serious singing contest, just a friendly one). My favorite piece is the Michael Jackson’s song, “You Are Not Alone.” I first heard it when I was on a vacation at my uncle’s house one summer, and I was like singing this song over and over again until I finally memorized it.

From that time on, I always listen to the radio and cassette tapes. But the genres I listened to that time was very limited. So I didn’t get a chance to know some of the best songs of the moment. My brother (kuya-kuyahan) had these song hits and a guitar, and I was very interested to play it. I had learned some of the chords, but I’m not a really good guitar player. Then I also got a chance to play keyboards, a few piece that I just learned.

If you are going to ask me what is the soundtrack of my life, I have many but I can give you one. It is “Breathing” by the Lifehouse. Breathing means life. Breathing means freedom. And this song is very special to me. It saved me from my misery.

“Cause I am hanging on every word you say and even if you don’t wanna speak tonight, that’s alright, alright with me. Cause I want nothing more than to sit outside Heaven’s door. And listen to your breathing is where I want to be. “

These particular lines meant much to me. These literally saved me. I interpreted it as someone who believes to every word and to every promise that God had spoken to us. It is patiently waiting and strengthening the faith in Him. We have our ups and downs but if we just keep on going and be positive in every way we can, we will realized that we are still blessed.

Up until now, music is the best for me. It is a versatile creation that can be interpreted into different meanings. It is an expression. It is a passion. It is love. It is freedom. And one song can even sum up a person’s life.

I’m not a serious musician, I don’t even call myself one at the moment, but I desperately love to be one. I am not also a singer, I don’t have that real good singing voice, I just want to sing. I am just a simple person who totally, from the bottom of her heart appreciates music very deeply.

You, what is the soundtrack of your life?

From the die-hard fan of music,
Candy Z.

“I am never less alone, than when I am alone”  - James Howell

Just as I am running through the meaning of the word “alone”, I came up with this statement in the internet: Alone emphasizes being apart from others but does not necessarily imply unhappiness.

Perhaps, this is true. Also, a lie the other way around.

I am a self-proclaimed loner ‘cause I’d prefer to be alone most of the time. I can stay at home for more than two to three days straight. Communicating with my virtual friend (monitor, keyboard, mouse), singing with my karaoke partner (speaker), and listening attentively to my full-time mentor (books). Even when I’m out of the house, I’d rather be alone. Lurking the streets and roaming around stores everywhere.

Oftentimes, people are asking me, “Hindi ka ba nalulungkot?”.And I answered, “Yes, I do. Sometimes.” But I guess I am just a rash human being to think that being alone brings the happiness that I can ever have. I don’t want to impose to myself that I am indeed alone. I am putting it this way, I am spending quality time with myself. (I know. This is such a defense mechanism. I don’t bother.)

And that’s why, I’m having a hard time dealing with relationship issues, or rather, commitments. Once, I sighted an astrology reading saying that Aquarians are afraid of commitments. At first, I disagree with it ‘cause I do want to have my companion too. Then eventually, I realized that it can be true.

Yes, I’m afraid of losing myself by having the presence of someone. It’s not that I’m always getting away from someone who attempts to get “closer” to me. It’s just that I don’t feel free.

So for the meantime, I’m really enjoying the wonderland I made up for myself. It’s good to be alone for a while, but it’s much better to have someone you can share your thoughts with. How contradicting, really.

 P. S. Don’t get wrong people, I am a happy creature. But I tend to get depressed at times. It’s human nature anyway. :P

From the joyfully lonesome,
Candy Z.

Hello there! It’s the 4th of January today and this is my first blog entry for the year. Yay!

Okay, first of all, I wanna thank all of my followers and every tumblr people out there who visited my blog, liked and reblogged my posts. You are simply the best! ♥

I’ve been using this blog since January of 2010. Yikes! It’s two years na pala! I remember the first time here, I was like, “Oh! This is great! Ang daming pictures na magaganda!” Haha. I’m not really into posting long-written essays, but I do blog on my Friendster account before. So when I start tumblr-ing, I don’t have any specific goal in mind. I was just enjoying this cool internet site.

My first ever post is entitled, “Top 10 Secrets to Being Happy”. I find this interesting article on the magazine, I have nothing to post so here it go. From then, I posted every single thing I feel, reblogged things that amuses me, and liked everything that’s cute. But as time goes by, as I browsed through my previous posts, I think I’ve grown, not enough as to the point that I’m well matured but to the sense that I bloomed.

Right now, my mind is crowded of so many things that I want to share with all of you. Something that I really wanted to do, and I cherish the most. I guess Tumblr is one of those things that made me realized some truths about life. An opportunity to more adventures and journeys. An eye-opener to the realities of the world. An image of inspiration. A music to sing along. A message to everybody that it’s a great feeling to express yourself.

I may have wrong grammars in some of my posts but I don’t mind. I may have annoying photos too, but I really don’t mind. This is my precious world and I will continue to make it big.

So as a fresh starter for this year, this is my Tumblr appreciation post. :)

I love you Tumblr, may you have many more followers to come!

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Sa dakong Metro Manila,
May kalyeng kung tawagin
ay Teresa,
Patungo iyon sa paaralang
para sa masa.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Nagsusulat kami sa mesa,
Nagbabasa ng mga talata
sa pisara,
Nakikinig, minsa’y
nakatunganga.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Papasok kami ng maaga,
Lalakad ng pagkahaba-haba,
Pipila hanggang sa walang
napala.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Tuwing maggagabi na,
Maririnig mo ang mga
“sana”,
“Sana” wala siya,
Para “sana” uwian na.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
May mga pusong nagkakilala,
May pumatak na mga luha.
May matagal nang nagsasama,
May panandalian lang
at nawala na.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Nalanghap namin ang amoy
ng mga siga,
Natikman ang mga inuming
may tama.
Ito’y hindi namin sinasadya,
Nagkataon lang talaga.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Nakakuha kami ng mga marka,
Marami namang pumasa,
‘Di lang talaga maiiwasang pumalya.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Nabuo ang aming mga pagnanasa,
Nakakita kami ng pag-asa,
Nabuksan aming mga diwa.

Doon sa Sta. Mesa,
Di man masyadong pinagpala,
Isa itong napakagandang biyaya.
Lugar ng napakaraming alaala,
Larawan ng kalungkutan at
ligaya,
Musika ng aming mga kaluluwa,
At naging tahanan ng bawat isa.

Last Sunday, I attended the Sunday Service at the Word of Hope near SM North Edsa and Trinoma. Again, it was just another absolute moment with God.

It was June 12 then, the 113th Celebration of the Independence here in the Philippines. The main topic of the preaching is FREEDOM.

Pastor June said ,

“It is by the love of the Lord that we are free.”

“Dahil sa dakilang pag-ibig ng Diyos kaya tayo ay malaya.”

And according to him, we should all live freely. ‘Cause God gave us all the freedom to do all the things we want. Whatever it is; dance, sing, shout, run, and a lot of those.

Everyday, I am always overwhelmed for all the things that I can see, hear, taste, touch, and feel. Even the smallest things. Appreciating all these simple things makes my life on earth more worthwhile. And this, I thanked all to God.

I just want to share this song. The message itself had swept me away.

I’m worst at what I do best
And for this gift, I feel blessed
Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana

EAT PRAY LOVE starring Julia Roberts

I watched this last Saturday night and wow! This movie made my whole year! The script is very meaningful, it is really heart-felt. Here are some of my favorite lines. I got from few internet sites. I also have my own notes unfortunately it’s quite unorganized. I’ll post the second set next time (my own notes).

Ketut Liyer: To lose balance sometimes for love is part of living a balanced life.

Felipe: Listen, balance, my darling, is not letting anybody love you less than you love yourself.

Liz Gilbert: In the end, I’ve come to believe in something I call “The Physics of the Quest.” A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you’re brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you.

Liz Gilbert: Maybe my life hasn’t been so chaotic. It’s just the world that is and the only real trap is getting attached to any of it. Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.

Ketut : “Do not look at the world through your head; look at it through your heart.”

Richard : “If you could clear you all that space in your mind, you would have a doorway. And you know what the universe would do? Rush in.”

Luca Spaghetti
: “Americans. You work too hard, you get burned outYou come home and spend the whole weekend in your pajamas in front of the T.V.”
Liz: “That’s not far off, actually.”
Luca Spaghetti: “But you don’t know pleasure. You have to be told you’ve earned it. You see a commercial that says: ‘It’s Miller Time!’ And you say, That’s right, now I’m going to buy a six pack. And then drink the whole thing and wake up the next morning and you feel terrible. But an Italian doesn’t need to be told. He walks by a sign that says: You deserve a break today. And he says, Yes, I know. That’s why I’m planning on taking a break at noon to go over to your house and sleep…with your wife!”

GiovanniLuca Argentero: “We call it “dolce far niente”, the sweetness of doing nothing.”

Richard: “You’re going to have to learn to select your thoughts the same way you select your clothes every day. Now that’s a power that you can cultivate. You want to come here and you want to control your life so bad work on the mind, and I don’t think you should be trying to control a thing because if you can’t master your thoughts you are in trouble forever.”

———————————-

When I first read the title “EAT PRAY LOVE”. It appears to me as three common words. But now I understand. EAT in Italy, Pray in India, Love in Bali.

Why eat in Italy? Aside from Italians cooked really tasty foods, what I understood in the movie is that they have pleasures on eating, not just they eat. They are very pleased to eat.

Why pray in India? We all know that Indian’s religion is Hinduism. Hinduism is known for yoga (meditation). They have these rituals that, well, I can described as “solemn.” They give importance to silence and freedom. Silence means “peace” and freedom means “cleansing of the heart, soul, and mind.” (This is just my opinion based on the movie). So if you want to have silence and freedom, or what we call “soul searching”, or just pray, the best place is in INDIA.

Why love in Bali? Well, there’s no definite reason why we should love in Bali, Indonesia. In the story, Liz (Julia Roberts) found the love of her life in Bali, and that is one obvious reason. Anyway, this is what I concluded. Perhaps we can rephrase the question into “Why fall in love in Bali?”. I can give you an answer. ‘Coz as we all know, Bali is really a paradise, you can’t help but fall in love with the place.
